Comparison of various decalcifying agents to evaluate their efficacy

Background: Bone is a biological complex structure primarily comprising collagen and minerals. It important to demineralize these mineralized tissues remove their calcium apatite crystals for analysing the sub-cellular, cellular, fibrillar architecture. Six demineralizing agents’ efficacy was examined by assessing duration, ease of handling tissue, staining, histological criteria. The present study aimed evaluate six commonly used agents identify best decalcifying agent. Methods: Twenty resected hard tissue specimens (1 cm × 1 x cm) from archives were in study. These segments decalcified solutions namely 10% nitric acid, formic 14% ethylene di amine tetra acetic acid (EDTA), mixture hydrochloric (formic + HCL) 4% each, each HNO3), formal further subjected radiographic endpoint test. Results: confirmed fact that samples treated with EDTA showed overall impression terms integrity histology followed which gave fairly good cellular details also rapid action. Conclusions: Based on findings, we suggest better agent available, considering time as two main factors.
